Essentials & Eateries:
Coboconk (10 minute drive):

  • Foodland: Open 24 hours during summer season; Open until 10 pm at other times.
  • LCBO and Beer Store

Gas and Snacks:

Esso Station and General Store, 5 minutes away in Norland. Open until 9 ish.

Pizza:

AMAZING pizza at Riverbank PIzza, Coboconk. 10 minutes away. They will deliver but with a surcharge. I’ve put some menus in the unit.

Best pub/ restaurant ever:

Riverside Inn, five minutes away. Fabulous kids menu: Reservations often required. Recently featured on Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here!

Minden: (20 minute drive)

Boat Rentals

Boat rentals are possible in Coboconk at Balsam RPM or in Rosedale at the Rosedale Marina. You would need to trailer the boat to either the Elliot Falls launch or the Lutterworth Township launch. You can dock the boat at the cottage for the duration of your stay.

Day Trips

Day trips depend on scheduled local events. Haliburton, Minden, Coboconk, Kinmount, Fenelon Falls and Norland are all within easy driving distance. Both Kinmount and Minden have a Saturday morning Farmer’s Market (seasonal) that are popular. Kinmount, Coboconk and Norland often have events happening in their fair grounds that are kid-friendly. The property is located about three kilometres south of the border with Haliburton County, so anything going on in Northern Kawartha Lakes / Western Haliburton would be easy to access.

One of the most popular destinations is the Wolf Centre in Haliburton. If the wolves are visible, it can be a real thrill and also educational.

One of my personal favourite local attractions is the Highland Cinema. The owner has created a crazy multiplex, in the middle of the forest, that shows first-run movies with digital/HD quality. He has collected a mind-boggling array of movie and 20th Century memorabilia that adorns each passageway. It is worth the ticket price just to see the place.

 

Note: The house was built in 1989 as a duplex and retains that structure today. The rental unit is the upper unit of the house shown in the photos. It is HUGE – three ample bedrooms, full bath and kitchen, and a 35 x 17 foot “great room” with tons of lounging space and a fireplace/woodstove.

Renters have a private entrance to their unit as well as a shared entrance which may be preferable in the winter. The two units are entirely separate and private.

The lower unit is owner-occupied. I work from home and my schedule varies, week by week. My work involves a lot of writing. You will barely notice I’m there unless I’m gardening or cutting the lawn.
