Fantastic Gull River Cottage

We had an amazing time at the Gull River Cottage. We boated, swam, had bonfires, swam more, dove, canoed, jumped and had a fantastic time! The cottage is so spacious and beautiful – lots of places to curl up and read, as well as two great spaces to play cards. We loved our time there – the kitchen was great and we really hope we can come back next year!!!!

Tranquility and comfort at its best.

More than a cottage…this was home away from home. Extremely spacious, clean and quiet. We enjoyed the morning sunrise from the wrap around deck or out on the dock. Kids had lots of fun floating down the river, jumping off the docks and ending the evening with a bonfire and s’mores! We had an incredible time!

We visit cottages regularly. This was the first time we stayed at cottage where the owner lived on-site. Initially we were hesitant about this. However, The experience was no different than us being at a cottage entirely to our selves. Liz was so good at keeping “out of the way”, it seemed as if the house was entirely to us!!! But with the advantage of her being readily available! Overall, we had a great experience during our stay at the Postcard. Liz was an amazing host. We felt like we were home with all the comfort features available. The house is beautiful both inside and out. We enjoyed the kayak/canoe/paddle boat, the fire pit, the bbq, the massive deck overlooking the river, and the company of her lovely dogs Big Dee and Sally!

Beautiful location with all the amenities.

This place is a hidden gem! We stayed over the Thanksgiving weekend and were amazed at how perfect this rental was! The location is perfect for people of all ages, you’re close to stores while being tucked away for privacy, the cottage is HUGE, the owner is lovely and very accommodating, and the cottage has nearly every amenity you could want – a home away from home, we will definitely be back!

Amazing stay – great location, plenty of room and a very accommodating host!

We stayed at The Postcard over Thanksgiving weekend and were overwhelmed at how great the space was! The rooms are huge and provided enough space for all of our family. The location/view is spectacular! To top it off Liz is an amazing host – quick with communication, relays all of the important information and ensures that you have a lovely time at her beautiful spot. Thank you Liz for letting us use your little piece of paradise! We will be back for sure!!

The Gull River Postcard was an exquisite place to stay. I generally have a few concerns when it comes to renting a cottage, for instance:

  1. Is the place going to be hygienically clean?
  2. Is the water wide/quiet enough for swimming without constantly worrying about the water traffic?
  3. Is the place equipped with modern amenities?

Well, Liz’s place is clean and offers all the comforts one can reasonably desire. The river is also wide enough for boats to pass while people are swimming/cruising in the water by the dock. Liz respects your privacy and is a wonderful host who made our stay as comfortable as we would be at our own homes. I already have recommended her place to friends and expect to return again with my family in the future.

We spent an ideal Christmas week at The Postcard — a cozy yet roomy getaway. Liz was wonderfully accommodating and made us feel very much at home. Some of our favourite things included:

  • the bright and expansive great room which looked out over the river; it was perfect for lounging, reading, playing games.
  • the fireplace! Liz had lots of wood at the ready, and we loved hanging out by the fire in the evenings.
  • the very well-equipped kitchen, including a double oven!
large eating area overlooking the water
  • super comfortable beds
  • lots of good hiking/snowshoeing right out the front door; more excellent hiking within a few kilometres.

From start to finish, “Gull River PostCard” was a top-notch cottage get-away. The host was very welcoming – she greeted us in the most polite, cheerful, unpretentious way, and assured us of providing anything that we were lacking. She respected our privacy throughout our stay but was always helpful when we asked for assistance. We found the vacation apartment to be spotlessly clean, and tastefully updated & decorated. The kitchen was very well stocked with pots, dishes, utensils, & all other meal preparation necessities. The owner even went the extra mile of providing wood and detailed fire lighting instructions for the beautiful wood fireplace. The highlight of our stay was the amazing winter hiking we did on the nearby trails – serene and wonderful. “The Gull River Postcard” really exceeded our expectations & we won’t hesitate to stay there again & recommend it to friends visiting the Norland, Ontario area!

A peaceful retreat:

Liz was a good host and easy to talk to. The beds were comfortable and the carpeting was plush. The air-conditioning was good and adjustable. We appreciated access to the canoe, paddle-boat and kayak. A highlight of the trip is Big Dee, Liz’s big and friendly dog. Be warned that getting to the apartment requires climbing stairs to the upper floor. Renters are also responsible for disposing of their garbage, while Liz takes care of compostables and recyclables which you have to take down to her garage. We recommend The Postcard if you want a quiet cottage vacation.
